Where can I join a walk?
There are two choices of meeting places for each weekend walk.
Firstly, you can meet us in the Harlow Town Park car park in School Lane adjacent to the Greyhound pub (grid reference TL 451 109) at 0930 unless stated otherwise in the programme. This gives us the opportunity to minimise the number of cars used and save fuel. Please note at the meeting point there is now a £1 per day parking charge on a Sunday.
Alternatively, you can make your own way to the starting point of the walk, as shown on the programme. The map number and the OS grid ref are shown next to each walk. Should you wish to go straight to the walk start, please give yourself plenty of time as the walk will begin at the stated time, but please be aware that in adverse weather conditions the walk leader may cancel the day’s walk at the School Lane meeting point.
How can I find out where the walk is?
Our programme shows the OS grid ref for each walk. A map showing the location of our walks can be found by clicking on the ‘Next Walk’ link on our website and then clicking on the link in the brief description of the walk. This will take you to the Ramblers walks finder page and will display the relevant walk details and a map. If you need further information about any walk you intend to join please contact Alan on 01279 600251.
What should I bring?
Water is essential for all walks. Each walker should carry enough water for the day and most walkers bring along a packed lunch for days out. Although a pub stop is arranged for most walks we don’t usually have time to eat in. If there is no pub stop, the walk is described as a 'dry walk'. First aid kits are carried by several members and walk leaders. It is advisable to always carry waterproofs. Sunscreen and a hat are useful for sun protection in the hot summer months. During the winter months mud can be a problem, walking poles are an advantage when the conditions are slippery.
What should I wear?
Sensible, comfortable walking footwear is essential as some of the terrain can be rough and uneven. You should wear comfortable outdoor clothing suitable for walking and waterproofs in inclement weather. For extreme wet conditions Wellingtons or Derri boots are a suitable alternative to boots.
Further information on outdoor clothing, footwear and equipment is available here.
Do I have to be a Ramblers member?
Anybody is welcome to try our walks at any time. You can try a few of our walks to see if you like them for no charge. If you decide that rambling is for you, then we recommend that you Join the Ramblers.
What about Children and Dogs?
Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for the child throughout the walk. Dogs are welcome on most walks unless otherwise stated. |
