Walks

Bluebells with Bee

Spring has now arrived!. We are now enjoying longer days and lighter evenings and looking forward to the summer. Take advantage of the better weather and join us on a ramble, taking in views of the beautiful flowers now blooming in the countryside.

Our new spring/summer walking programme is now available to download for our Sunday walks. Our mid-week evening walks will start again in May. Both of the new programmes are now available on our website.

Further information about all our walks can be found on 'Next Walks' (top left nav). This links to the Ramblers Walksfinder, where you can view a map of the walk start point when you click on the walk.

Olympic Stadium Also - New to our programme this season - we are planning a series of three linear walks, the aim of which is to walk from Harlow to the Olympic Park in Stratford. These are being held on 27th May and 16th and 17th of June. More information is available on our Sunday walks programme. This part of the Ramblers Get Walking for the Games initiative.

The Stort Valley Walking Group meets regularly on Sundays. Our programme consists of regular Sunday walks throughout the year ranging between 8-12 miles in distance. Most walks are in the surrounding countryside of Essex and Hertfordshire, but some walks are further afield. Walking Photo

The Sunday walks meeting point is in the Harlow Town Park car park in School Lane adjacent to the Greyhound pub (grid reference TL 451 109) at 0930, unless stated otherwise in the programme. This gives us the opportunity to minimise the number of cars used and save fuel. Please note at the meeting point there is now a £1.05 per day parking charge on a Sunday.

Should you wish to go straight to the walk start, please give yourself plenty of time as the walk will begin at the stated time, but please be aware that in adverse weather conditions the walk leader may cancel the day's walk at the School Lane meeting point.

During high summer we organize mid-week evening walks of approx. 5 miles or two hours walking. In addition we have the occasional weekend away. The group has also enjoyed a full week away, each year in the summer, walking some of the well-known long distance paths.

The group also organises holidays walking long distance paths further afield. In 2010 we completed a group walk, walking 79 miles of the Yorkshire Wolds Way.  In 2011 we completed a walk around the Isle of Man. During Easter 2012 we had a very enjoyable weeks' walking around the Isle of Wight and walked 65 miles around the coastal path.

As a member of the Ramblers you are entitled to join any group walk. All group walks are advertised on the Ramblers Groups Walks Finder.
